Larnaca and Paphos as destinations for leisure airlines from all over Europe, plus Mackenzie Beach, where landing aircraft pass low over the beach.
1 spot listed
Larnaca is the largest airport in the Republic of Cyprus, and Paphos in the west is the second international airport; both are operated by Hermes Airports. Traffic is dominated by leisure and low-cost airlines from all over Europe, plus connections to the Middle East. Ercan in the north of the island is not internationally recognized and is served only via Turkey.
In Larnaca, Mackenzie Beach lies under the approach to runway 22, and landing aircraft pass the beach at low altitude. Police and security staff make sure people keep their distance at the fence – respect barriers and instructions. Military facilities must not be photographed in Cyprus; this also applies to Paphos, where the airport has a military section.
Summers are long, hot and dry, the midday sun is harsh and haze is common. Mackenzie Beach has the best light from afternoon until sunset, while in winter this side gets hardly any sun. Most flights operate from spring to fall.
Vantage points under the approach or at the runway threshold. Landing aircraft at low altitude and spectacular perspectives – but heavily dependent on the runway direction in use: with the wrong wind, nothing happens here.
